“Kya Kushwaha bhi Rajput Suryavanshi Kahlate Hai”
My Dear Kushwaha friend! This question can be divided in two parts. 1. Kya Kushwaha Rajput Hai. 2. Kya Kushwaha Suryavanshi Hai.
Answer to the first question is NO. We are not sons of Kings. We belong to warrior (Kshatriya) caste who in peace time cultivate land. We have high ethics and always hold weapons for saving common men and showed over love for them. We established our empires for saving common men like Mauryan Empire and democratic Shakya Kingdoms like Kapilvastu or on desire of public as the case of Lord Ram (Ram Rajya).
As per historian William Brook, there is quite difference between Rajputs and Vedic-Buddhist era Kshatriyas. Rajputs originated in India after Shak, Kushan and Hun invasion. After merger with Indian society, these new royal families adopted Indian religion and Indian priests established their relation with superhuman figures of Ramayana, Mahabharata etc. In Prathviraj Rasho, Chandra Bardai, royal poet of King Prathviraj Chauhan wrote that when all Kshatriyas were killed by Rishi Parasuram then there was no one to save Brahmins. Brahmins prayed to God on Mount Aabu and did a forty days long Havan. From Havankund (Fire Pot) Rajputs came out and established their dynasties. Historian Edward supported this story and explained that origin from fire pot means purification of foreigners and others through fire which is a Vedic ritual and then introducing them in caste system. Kannad poet Pump wrote that Pratihar kings were Gurjar. Edict of Chauhan established their relation with Vatsya Brahmin. V. D. Mahajan wrote that as per some scholars, Chandels are sons of Gond and Bhar type tribal castes. Historian Dr. D. R. Bhandarkar gave the reference of edicts of Guhil Rajputs and wrote that they were Nagar Brahmins. Historian Dr. V. A. Smith wrote that Rajputs were a mixed caste. He wrote that in absence of any great emperor, many persons from different castes and areas established their kingdoms and established a new caste named Rajput. (Ref: Northern India after Harshavardhan, Ancient India by V. D. Mahajan)
Answer to the second question is YES. Kushwaha is a branch of Shakya Kshatriyas who were Suryawanshi. Kushwahas accept Hindu mythological version for their origin and claim that they are descendent of Kush, son of Lord Ram. Kushwahas are commonly known as Kachhi. Word Kachhi is cognate with Sanskrit word Kachchha or Kachchhap. They believe that Kachhawah Rajputs are a separated group of this caste who remained in power during medieval age too and started marriage relation with other Rajputs only. As per Vishnu Puran and bardic chronicles, Sumitra was the last king of Ikshvaku dynasty in Ayodhya. In the fourth century BC Mahapadma Nand of Nand Dynasty included Ayodhya in his empire and sons of King Sumitra were forced to leave. Kachchha who was one of the son of King Sumitra thus migrated from his parental abode and established himself at the bank of the river Son, in present-day Bihar, where he constructed a fort called the Rohtas fort and established Kachchha dynasty. It seems that some of them joined Rajput caste with Kachhawah name and separated with other members of this dynasty who had opted horticulture.
In Aadiparv of great epic Mahabharata there is a description of Kachchhap dynasty that took part in war of Mahabharata. There is description of Kachchha kingdom in Ramayana too. Some scholars believe that their royal symbol was tortoise that is why name of dynasty is Kachchha, Kurm, Kashyap or Kachchhap. These scholars explained that in Vedic-Biddhist era, many dynasties adopted tree, bird or animal as royal symbol and kept name of dynasty on the name of these tree, bird or animal due to its specific good attribute and cited similar examples of Shakya (Shak Tree) dynasty, Matsya (Fish) dynasty, Maurya (Peacock) dynasty and Nag (Cobra) dynasty and Singh (Lion) dynasty etc.
Shakyamuni Buddha is also called as Bhadrakachchh which means gentleman of Kachchha clan and Yashodhara is called as Bhadrakachchha which mean gentlewoman of Kachchha clan. This proves Kachchha Kshatriya was the old name of Shakya Kshatriya. Some scholars opined that Kushwaha or Kachhawaha or Kachhi were originated in Kachchha area of Gujarat state and later they moved toward northern India. Even today residents of Kachchha area are known as Kachchhi or Kachhi. This view is also having a strong support of grammar of Hindi and Sanskrit. Even language of Kachchha area is known as Kachchhi or Kachhi and is spoken in some parts of Gujrat state and Pakistan. In Gujrat state, Patel Kachhis have very good population. On their connection with agriculture, these scholars wrote that during archaeological excavations, the oldest farming tools of India were found from Kachchha area which proves that Kachchhis or Kachhis i.e. residents of Kachchha were inventors of agriculture in India.
Kushwaha are Suryavavanshi Kshatriya and are Kin of other suryawanshi Shakya, Maurya, Saini etc.
